Face to Face with Grace

A 10 outta 10 interview. 10 questions, 10 answers.

An interview with Grace Burzese, the founder and C.E.O.

of

Beauty Incubator Recruitment based in Toronto

First of all my dear friend, welcome! Since we are amazing friends, I’m thrilled you’ll be my first interview for my website.

I wanted to call the interview “Amazing Grace”, but felt that was too obvious.

Question 1, how do you like the interview title “Face to Face with Grace” lol?

Grace- I love it! It rhymes with my name lol.

Question 2, what type of company is it that you started?

Grace- We are a niche recruiter offering recruitment solutions for spas, clinics and wellness centers.

Having 24 years of experience in the esthetic industry and having worked in almost all sectors within the industry, I quickly realized there was a lack of recruitment and employment guidance in esthetics. I was very fortunate within my career to work alongside renowned plastic surgeons and cosmetic dermatologists, provided and developed education for pharmaceutical companies for their North American operations as well as being invited to perform esthetic services at the Oscars and Sundance Film festival. So the purpose of my company is to give others the help and guidance that I didn't have in my career.

Question 3, what was your motivation for starting it? Were there gaps in the beauty industry that needed filling?

Grace-Two things really motivated me.

1. My passion for the industry.

2. Helping others. I was very fortunate in my career but I had to find the opportunities and make my own contacts.

When I first became an esthetician I thought I was going to perform manicures and pedicures the rest of my life. Which is ok if that's your passion, but no one told me about the opportunities available to an esthetician within the industry.

Yes I realized early on in my career there was a lack of employment guidance. As a former esthetic instructor I would always council my students about the opportunities that exist within the esthetic sector and having a vast network of contacts it just came naturally to help them find placement upon graduation. Over the years I found myself not only helping students but colleagues as well.

Question 4, what services does your company provide?

Grace- We provide a range of services; resume building, career guidance/coaching, staffing solutions for spas, clinics, corporate offices within the spa and esthetic industry.

Question 5, do you see your company going international or staying Canadian exclusive?

Grace-I have no limitations when it comes to helping others.

Question 6, I did some research in the beauty industry and found your company has a fantastic reputation for superior job placement. How did you build a niche business from scratch and develop an amazing reputation from the onset? How much time and research went into it before your company launched?

Grace- Thank you. I consider myself honest and transparent. I care about both my clients and candidates. I understand how important it is to find the right fit for a client. There are many factors to consider; skills, personality and company culture. The same can be said about a candidate, I want to ensure they're positioned in an environment where they can thrive.

Question 7, I know you’ve got tons of experience in the Esthetics and Medical Esthetics industry. What do you recommend a new spa or salon owner consider before opening their doors? How much research should they do?

Grace- Here are few things I would consider before opening a business.

1. You need a vision

2. Make sure you have the right people- the staff is the face of the business (skills and personality)

3. Location- Is the area right for your clientele, parking, do you have street level access.

4. Marketing – Website, social media platforms- how will people find you.

5. Who is you target demographic

B. I don’t think you really ever stop researching.

Question 8, where do you see the Esthetics industry heading in the future? Is there anything new on the horizon in terms of new services being offered?

Grace- The Esthetic industry is booming. The innovation in skincare and technology are continuously developing and evolving. We live in a very fast paced world where people want instant gratification with minimal downtime. On the other hand we're seeing wellness destination vacations on the rise, people want to de-compress, pamper themselves and are in search of a more balanced lifestyle.

Question 9, what is your least favorite service currently being offered in the Esthetics industry? And what is your favorite service with the most bang for the buck?

Grace-I don't have a least favorite service. The way I see it - if there's a demand for it, there's a place for it.

My favorite service right now is called a Microgenesis HF. It's a combo treatment which includes microdermabrasion, hydrafacial for deep cleansing and exfoliation overlapped with a gentle laser that improves uneven skin tone and stimulates collagen production. My skin is glowing afterwards!

Question 10, what are your all-time 5 favorite skin care products you’d recommend to anyone without hesitation?

Grace- Only 5!?! I have more than 5 favorites, but this is my top 5 for the summer.

Vivier Kine-C serum, Skinceuticals Blemish and Age Serum,

SkinMedica TNS Essential Serum, ZO Daily Power Defense Moisturizer and Elta SPF 45.

Thank you Grace my dear friend!  Continued success with Beauty Incubator Recruitment.

Lots of love,

-Sheldon
